Frequently Asked Questions
-
How far in advance can I rent items?
If you are renting gear for an opportunity through Queen’s (ie. field course, fieldwork, or field trip) you can book items for any date during the current academic year (September – June). We prioritize rentals for these opportunities, however you are welcome to rent gear for recreational activities outside of these as well! You can reserve gear for personal use no more than two weeks before the beginning of your rental period.
-
Can I try items on before renting?
Yes! You are welcome to try on any of our items, or check them out in person before renting them. Let us know when you would like to come by, and we’ll make sure to have a team member there.
-
When can I rent gear?
The lending library runs year-round, so you can rent gear any fall, winter or summer semester.
-
Can I donate used gear?
Yes! We are always accepting gear donations for the lending library. See our donate page for more information on how to contact us.
-
What if I damage or lose my rental gear?
Wear and tear on gear is a part of all outdoor activities, so we understand that gear won’t always be returned in the exact same condition it was lent out! We do set aside funds for mending equipment, however, we ask that you do your best to be careful with our items so they can be safely lent to other students in the future. In the case of lost or severely damaged equipment you may be asked for some form of compensation, but this will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
